HDERABAD: All eyes are on the first Republic Day parade after the creation of Telangana. Among the proud participants representing Telangana at the parade is going to be Praveen Kumar Yalala, a history student of University of Hyderabad, who has been selected as a National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteer. “It is all like a dream,” said Praveen, who is among the six students who will showcase Telangana and interact with 200 other volunteers coming from different states of the country for the Republic Day Parade Camp-2015 being held in New Delhi till January 31, 2015.
The NSS volunteers at the RD camp get rigorous training and also get an opportunity to meet role models besides a chance to exhibit their talent and cultural background. The NSS volunteers also get a chance to meet the President and Prime Minister of the country .
Son of a daily-wage labourer from Kandukur village, Ranga Reddy district, Praveen said, “I feel proud that I am going to be among the first few to represent my new state. I want to become a research scholar. And since I am with NSS, I also have my eyes set on IPS. I believe in Ambedkar's words: `Pay back to the society'."
The 22-year-old MA student of University of Hyderabad who is undergoing training at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi said, “I have seen tough times, but my father was determined to give me the best. He worked day and night and sent me to Navodaya Vidyalaya, Gachibowli.“ After completing his school education Praveen applied to University of Hyderabad and got selected."
Praveen has also worked as a labourer in a poultry farm."Clearing chicken droppings was a tough task. The smell would make me puke. But I am grateful to UoH that I am here. It was my instructor Prof Vasantha Srinivasa Rao who mentored me and coached me for this."
